Building a DIY Greenhouse from Pallets

Shipping pallets make excellent building material for a budget-friendly greenhouse. This project can be completed over a weekend with basic tools.

Materials Needed

Pallets: 6-8 standard shipping pallets (heat-treated, marked HT) Plastic sheeting: 6mil greenhouse plastic or polycarbonate panels Hardware: Screws, hinges, weatherstripping Foundation: Concrete blocks or treated lumber

Construction Steps

  1. Prepare pallets by removing loose boards and sanding rough edges
  2. Build the frame connecting pallets at corners with metal brackets
  3. Create the roof with angled supports for proper drainage
  4. Install covering ensuring proper ventilation gaps

Finishing Touches

Ventilation: Install automatic vent openers for temperature control Shelving: Add levels using pallet wood for maximum space Water collection: Gutters can direct rainwater to storage barrels

This greenhouse extends your season and protects plants from harsh weather while costing a fraction of commercial options.
